1. Veteran Pittsburgh Detective Jack Mook teaches boxing to local youth. When two of his students, who are teenage brothers, started missing, he did some investigating and discovered they were living in abusive conditions with a foster family. So, he legally adopted both of them. When he made that decision to do so, he said he slept better that night than he ever had.
2. Teenager Jamal Rutledge was handcuffed and being booked into jail in Fort Lauderdale when officer Franklin Foulks collapsed to the floor, clutching his chest. No other officers were in the area at the time so Jamal started kicking at the gate and yelling at the top of his lungs to alert others of what had happened. Soon, three other officers were on the scene helping with Foulks and getting an ambulance there. Foulks recovered, but doctors said if his rescue had taken much longer, he would have died. Though Jamal had been at the jail charged with burglary, he was later commended by the Fort Lauderdale City Commission for his heroic actions.
3. 6-year-old Raith of Australia disappeared from his home on Mother’s Day this year. His frantic parents called police, letting them know they believe he was still in his pajamas. Sure enough, Raith was spotted by some nearby store workers still in his pajamas. He had ridden his bicycle to the store to buy a television set for his mom for Mother’s Day. Of course, he didn’t have any money at all to buy one. Ahhh… to be young and dream.
4. A little girl was playing in a park in Israel when she spotted a lazy cat lying in the grass. So she kicked it. It didn’t flinch. Then she stomped on its tail. The cat then jumped up and chased the little girl, who tripped over a concrete ledge and smashed face-first into the ground. Well, life is full of lessons, and hopefully, she learned a very valuable one here, along with a dose of karma, which doesn’t discrimate with one’s age.
